This is why you will only see parachute rigs on our site; rigged solo, in tandem or as part of an umbrella rig.

With a 13-line spread we entere a whole new mindset of tolling. It was not too long ago that other boaters looked at us like we were nuts as we trolled by with 13 to 16 lines out. Now seeing 24 to 28 lines is a common sight; even 23 foot boats are pulling 13 to 16 lines effectively. It goes without further mention that planer boards are required as well as a lot of rod holders.

With thirteen or more lines way out there on planer boards you can shift your thinking. The goal is to cover lots of horizontal and vertical area. The further away from the boat the more likely you will encounter fish near the surface. So, out here we like to run Daisy Chains with 4oz Parachutes. Then, on the two lines closest to the boat we like to run the 12/4oz Tandem Parachutes. In this spread we keep 12oz Umbrella rigs about 50 feet off the transom and a 4oz umbrella rig down the middle.

The line lengths listed here are a good place to start. Exact line length will change with type of boat and sea conditions. You will have to experiment to determine what works best. What is important is that when a line gets hit, you can put another one back out at the exact distance. This is where our Line Counter Bay Trolling reels come in handy. If you don't have a line counter reel, you will have to come up with a method like counting the number of times the bar on a level wind moves across the reel, or mark your line every 25 feet. No matter what method you choose, you will need a note pad to keep it all straight!

All of the planer board lines are let out 100 feet. The angle that the boards run will ensure there is enough seperation to keep fom tangels. Some anglers like to run them 75 feet to125 feet, thats ok too; whatever works. It will require lots or experimentation and what works one day may not work the next, always be willing to make changes throughout the day. Spreads need to be worked.
