Why should I use spreader bars?

It's all about appearance to the game fish. Spreader bars enhance your ability to make the spread appear to be a large school of bait fish.

Why should I use Reel Draggin' Tackle spreader bars?

Our bars are tested, validated and recommended by professional fishermen who choose to use them over others on the market. They helped us design these bars.

What trolling speed is appropriate for spreader bars?

There is no fixed speed. It depends on many variables including wind and sea conditions. The general range is between 4.5 and 9.5kts. Important considerations are to make sure everything in the water complements each other and if you are trolling at a slower speed, jets for example will become ineffective. When trolling bars, watch the bar it will tell you the correct speed for the conditions. The bar should be just inches out of the water, and the squid should be riding the surface creating a disturbance that will draw game fish attention. On calm days troll faster, on rougher days slow down. Use Bird bars on calm days and traditional bars on rougher days.

When will conditions determine that I only use the larger bars?

It's important to know what the tuna are feeding on. Look, watch and listen to anyone and everyone fishing in the area. Then when you put your spread out, try to match the size of the bait. Keep all lures sizes within two or three inches of each other (uniform bait size).

When do you recommend the larger bars over the small bars?

We pull both. The 33" bars are pulled from the outrigger tips, and the 16" bars on the short riggers. These bars are designed to be light enough so that several can be trolled from light weight outriggers. The bars were tested on Lee 15 foot Skiff outriggers. Remember, the goal is to create the appearance of a large bait school.

Why are Reel Draggin' Tackle spreader bars rigged with 130# Blue Diamond Momoi monofilament? Momoi Diamond Line is the strongest, toughest and most abrasion  resistant monofilament fishing line on the market today.  Diamond Line features breaking strengths that are nearly double the stated line rating and superior knot strength.  The 130# Momoi consistently tests at 244#.  Its diameter is 1.28mm.  Using this line allows us to downsize and get better action from our teasers, yet maintain the line strength needed when that Big Eye or Blue Marlin shows up in Ir pattern.
Why does Reel Draggin' Tackle use 9 squid on the SIG35 bars and 12 squid on the SIG16 bars? Its about matching the size of bait and creating the appearance of a bait school on bars that can be pulled from a variety of boat locations.  We don't rig the larger bars with small squid because to would take too many to create a dense bait pod.  This would lead us back to a heavy weight bar and that is not what we are about.  We have had better success with two smaller bars rather than one large bar.
When should I using spreader bars with jet heads? This is the ace in the hole.  When things are slow I need to create more surface action.  The jet bars are designed to do just that.  They should be deployed with other single jet head lures of the same size and shape and trolled a little faster (7.5 to 9.5).  These are also a good choice when its a little rough out.  In rougher seas, I need something that comes out of the water and dives down under the surface agitation to get attention.  The jet bars meet this requirement.
