Reel Draggin’ Tackle Fishing Team Report – June 22, 2007
Location:  Ocean City, Md. - Sunset Marina
Boat: 47' Buddy Davis
Captains Ed Zajdel & Ron Zajdel

Crew: Larry Sarlo, Craig Constantino (+1), Frank Gome, Barry

Details:

Left the docks at Sunset marina promptly at 5 on Captain Zip's 47 foot buddy davis. Nice boat.
One engine was running rough on the way out which required the captain and mate to change a fuel filter while the boat rocked and rolled. New filter and the motor purred. Hit the poorman canyon shortly after 7 and set out a 10 rig spread composed of 6 sea witches/ballyhos and 4 spreader bars. Within the first half hour, 3 rods bent and 3 reels screamed. One tuna came unbuttoned quickly and another a couple of minutes later.  A few minutes later, the mate gaffed a 57# yft. Apparently, this area represented the hot bite as we counted 41 boats in the area. However, the bite was short and sweet. Nothing for the next 3 hours until we picked up a 15# dolphin on a seawitch. At least one other dolphin hit but did not stay stuck. Another couple of hours working the area while watching the fleet disperse. Finally, 3 more bent rods but only one tuna stayed on. It hit one of the close in spreader bars. Neat visual as it crashed the bar. It was a smaller fish coming in at around 20#. Water was very sloppy on the ride out and got worse by mid day. However, by the time we pulled lines it had calmed down which made for a nice ride back in.
