The Canyon Draggin' is equipped with a high performance, high definition broad band digital sonar processing system. We use two Airmar Pulse transducers, the P66 and the TM260. High definition digital broadband processing is provided by Lowrance Electronics. We also use a Side Scan sonar imaging system with down scan. The side scan sonar operates at 455 kHz and 800 kHz. In water up to 200 feet we are able to capture a very clear side scan sonar image of what is directly below the boat, or out to 300 feet either side of the boat. The maximum depth capability of the side scan imaging system is about 300 feet depending on the survey target and water conditions. The broadband sonar allows us to survey the bottom using 200 kHz up to 1200 feet (up to 5000ft using 50 kHz). Post processing software is then used to create high quality 3D bottom contour and bottom hardness images as shown below.
The sonar timeseries data from both the side scan sonar and the pulse sonar are recorded using two Lowrance HDS10 sonar recording systems. The timeseries data is replayed on the HDS10 displays for further analysis, measurements and image captures. We also have several PC applications that give us the ability to use the recorded data to create detailed 3D bottom contour images, bottom hardness images and contour files for export to most GPS chart plotters.
A typical Canyon Draggin' Imaging Survey would look like this:
The customer provides a specific area or wreck to survey.
A date is coordinated, the customer is welcome to be aboard or may choose not to go for the ride.
We will
spend several hours driving over the area, collecting side scan images and recording sonar data.
Side Scan images, traditional sonar images and chart images are captured while underway. The data is then brought back to our shop for post event processing. It will take several days of reprocessing and a few additional days to compile and correlate the data to charts. When completed we will provide an electronic data pack on a DVD that includes:
- Correlated images and video with nautical charts
- Very detailed personal contour charts that can be uploaded to most GPS Chart plotters.
- 3D contour charts
- 3D images of wrecks
- Detailed color contour images
- Detailed bottom hardness images
- Side Scan Images
- Traditional Fish Finder images
- Side Scan and Down Scan images overlay on the traditional fish finder images.
- Chart Images showing how well the area was surveyed.
- Short sonar and chart plotter video for PC replay.
