INSTRUCTIONS FOR MARINE EXTERIOR SALT REMOVAL

Salt-Away is the first product that is successfully changing the entire salt-water boating maintenance industry.

Because of Salt-Away’s popularity, many boaters began to take their engines back to their dealers to have them retrofitted to be able to accept the Salt-Away Mixing Unit.

Now, major boat engine manufacturers are beginning to re-engineer their engines to accommodate the introduction of a salt removing product without having to use a dispenser.

Salt-Away was the first product marketed as an engine flush, and we developed a successful way to get it into engines.

head gasket

The above head gaskets came out of the same outboard motor. Before he knew about Salt-Away, Greg Moss, the owner and mechanic of Moss Marine, Channelview, TX, had always flushed his motors with fresh water after every use in salt water. The gasket on the left, flushed with fresh water for a year, was removed during the motor's annual overhaul. Greg replaced the gasket with the one on the right and began flushing every time with Salt-Away. It was used in the motor for one year and was removed at the next annual overhaul.

Salt-Away does 3 major jobs when used as an engine flush. It flushes out the fresh salt, it protects the inside from rusting and corroding, and it begins to break down salt build-up. When performing an engine flush with Salt-Away, for outboards, and most I/Os where flushing muffs are used, Salt-Away’s Concentrate and the Salt-Away Mixing Unit are required.

During the process, flush until Salt-Away’s foaming action can be seen exiting the exhaust, which takes 20-30 seconds. Less than ½ ounce of product has been used, and the remaining product in the Mixing Unit can be used to remove salt from the boat, trailer and other equipment, up to 35 feet.

SALT-AWAY’S SALT REMOVING AGENT Salt-Away’s salt removing agent is a new, highly technical product which is much more successful than any other similar additive on the market. It has a very high, dense foaming property which allows the salt removal to be unquestionable.

  • The foaming property is not to be mistaken for a hazardous or toxic material. The foaming soon dissipates.
  • All ingredints in Salt-Away are non-hazardous, non-toxic and environmentally safe.

Instructions - Using Flushing Muffs

1. Remove 4-ounce cup of Mixing Unit and fill with Salt-Away. Be careful not to lose O-ring.

2. Replace cup. Always make sure the O-ring is seated on the groove on top of the cup before replacing.

3. Connect garden hose to Salt-Away Mixing Unit. Mixing Unit is in 'off' position.

4. Connect other end onto flushing muff or other flushing device.

5. Turn on water. (Mixing Unit has been tested to withstand water pressure up to 60 psi. Higher pressure may cause the unit to malfunction.)

6. Turn Salt-Away Mixing Unit to 'rinse' position to begin water flowing through the water jackets. Start engine. (VERY IMPORTANT: Personal Watercraft manufacturers require that engines be started before the water begins to flow.)

7. Turn Salt-Away Mixing Unit valve to 'Salt-Away' (ON) position. Some inboard engines are required to warm up first to open water jackets. If your engine has this requirement, wait until the thermostat opens the water jackets, then turn valve to the ON position. This position mixes Salt-Away and water to the correct ratio of Salt-Away to water for easily removing salt.

8. Run engine with Salt-Away flushing through the cooling system. Watch for the Salt-Away foaming action to exit the exhaust.

9. Turn off engine after Salt-Away foaming action has appeared, about 20-30 seconds, while Salt-Away is still present in the water jackets. It is ok to flush for up to 1 minute. Flushing for more than 1 minute is unnecessary, and the product is being wasted.

10. Turn Salt-Away Mixing Unit valve to the 'off' position and remove Mixing Unit from the flushing muffs or other flushing device.

11. Do not rinse Salt-Away out of engine with fresh water. Leave inside so that its corrosion inhibitors can protect the metal from rusting and corroding, and so that the salt removing agent can begin to break down salt build-up. See instructions for removing salt build-up.

12. Use the remainder of Salt-Away in the 4-ounce cup to remove salt from your boat and other equipment. See step-by-step instructions for exterior salt removal.
